The Lothersdale Growing Our Own Group

The Lothersdale Growing Our Own Group was set up earlier this year for people to grow produce and plants to share, exchange growing tips and get together to socialise.

We grow our fruit and vegetables without using chemicals as we want to be kind to nature and to eat clean food. Organic produce is still quite expensive to buy so group members are able to enjoy good quality chemical free food for the cost of some seeds.

We have 17 people in the group who are all growing one type of fruit or vegetable in sufficient volumes to share. This is our first year and we have members growing peas, carrots, chillies, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, courgettes, swiss chard, leeks, purple sprouting broccoli and broad beans.

Our first meet up was at the beginning of June at Ninevah Farm where we were kindly hosted by Val and Peter Lowman. We were treated to a garden tour and delicious home-made cakes. Group members exchanged seedlings and plants and we took away some lovage to make soup. The second meet up was in the park in Lothersdale on 28 June where salad, courgettes and strawberries were shared. We will continue to meet up over the harvesting season.
