New year, renewed energy in the Rec! Coppicing work from several years ago in the wet woodland has now provided sufficient straight(ish) 5’ stems of alder, willow and dogwood to harvest and make a tidy woven screen to each side of the bird-hide.
Two village youngsters, Nicolas & Klara, are volunteering with Wild About Lothersdale to count towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and they made a good start today. Over the coming weeks, they will be helping to tidy up around the commemorative trees, manage some scrub, and help to prevent erosion of the beck banks using green engineering. Then there’s a bit of tree planting and tree-tube TLC to undertake around the village….
The work in the Rec forms part of the Lothersdale Woodland Group / Wild About Lothersdale ongoing contribution to the Woodland Management Plan on behalf of the Parish Council.
